What 2024 expects from us, and what I plan to do about it
AI, Climate Crisis, Sustainability, Design Thinking, Trust and more
As a creative designer and design-thinking enthusiast working with nature, especially domesticated nature, I find myself contemplating the essential goals for the year ahead—a critical 2024 that demands thoughtful planning.
It’s important to remember that behind this newsletter, there’s a person—me, Eduardo. A crucial goal of mine is to draw closer to all of you, adopting a more human approach aimed at breaking away from the habits of social media algorithms and avoiding one-way enclosed communications. I envision creating a more trustworthy and healthier digital social ethic, resembling a traditional personal correspondence while harnessing the technologies of 2024 and beyond.
In light of the dominant AI trends, I’ve outlined the following goals for the upcoming year. These personal aspirations will be my focus, addressing key aspects while maintaining a strong commitment to nature conservation and climate crisis consciousness:
Integrate AI in Design Processes: I will explore the integration of AI tools into design processes. This could involve using AI for pattern recognition in natural elements or leveraging algorithms for innovative design concepts—all with a commitment to minimizing environmental impact.
AI-Enhanced Sustainability: I’d like to focus on how AI can contribute to sustainable design practices. I will utilize AI to optimize resource management, energy efficiency, and overall ecological impact in domesticated nature projects. And of course, to champion sustainability as a core principle in every design decision.
Smart Domestication: I already embrace smart home and IoT technologies for creating intelligent domesticated nature spaces. So I plan to do it more and better. This might involve AI-driven irrigation systems, smart lighting, or automated climate control for indoor gardens—always with a focus on reducing carbon footprints.
Collaboration with AI Developers: Can’t wait to foster collaborations with AI developers or experts. Building partnerships in the AI field can open new possibilities for innovative design solutions and align projects with cutting-edge AI trends. These collaborations should prioritize eco-friendly and sustainable practices.
AI-Driven User Experience: I want to explore how AI can enhance the user experience in domesticated nature spaces. This could involve designing interactive elements that respond to users’ preferences or using AI to create personalized, adaptive environments. And through this newsletter I will keep encouraging eco-conscious choices in user behavior.
Stay Informed and Adaptive: I do love to stay updated on the latest AI trends and advancements in the design industry. Adapting to emerging technologies ensures creative designs remain relevant and forward-thinking. Stay informed about the environmental impact of technology and adopt practices that contribute to a greener future.
Educational Initiatives: I’ll keep sharing my knowledge in AI-driven design through articles (and hopefully workshops and webinars too). Contributing to the understanding of AI in the design community is priceless, with a strong emphasis on incorporating sustainable practices and fostering environmental consciousness.
Ethical AI Practices: This is important. We need to be mindful of ethical considerations in AI. Prioritize ethical practices to ensure responsible use of technology that benefits both users and the environment. Advocate for ethical AI policies that align with nature conservation and climate crisis mitigation.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: I started last year and I am still doing in on 2024. I love to collaborate with professionals from diverse fields, including AI, to foster interdisciplinary innovation. The interviews already published in This Is Horticulture and the nexts to come are good proof of that. Bringing together expertise from different domains and generations can lead to groundbreaking ideas and solutions. Emphasize collaborations that addresses climate challenges and promotes sustainable living.
Showcase AI-Infused Projects: Actively showcase AI-infused projects to demonstrate the possibilities of blending creative design with AI technologies. This can attract attention, inspire others, and position you and me as a thought leader in AI-driven design for domesticated nature. Use these projects as a platform to advocate for environmentally conscious design practices.
That’s it for now! If the number 10 is fine for a British PM to live in, it should be fine for me too! I hope these aspirations inspire you to make the most of the twelve months to come.
See you soon,
Brilliant and thought provoking as always, Eduardo. There’s so much to consider in moving forward. We can’t wait to see where you go in 2024!
Thanks my friend! This year looks promising!
